Well Rambutan season has come and gone. Last weekend we went to Aon and Pong's house in Ban Na San.
Aon used to work at Mathus but is now on indefinite maternity/child raising leave. Her husband's family has a fair bit of farm land out there. They grow rambutan, durian, mangosteen, longan, and some other fruits.
While we were out there we went to their farm land and helped them pick the rambutan. Justin got to climb up in a tree and cut some down- most of which he selectively aimed at my head :) It was really lovely to be out in the country and away from traffic. I didn't realize how much I missed that till we were there. Surat is by no means a big city, but it is consistently crowded and loud. It was great to get away and enjoy the peace and quiet.
Here are some pictures from the area:
In the evening we went to a Southern Man "gang party" as our Thai friends called it. It's more like a club than a gang, but it was still a fun party. Justin even got his own "Southern Man" shirt with a big deer on the back. The whole thing was very reminiscent of Southern Illinois.
Justin and Shaun sang Backstreet Boys and Zombie for Karaoke. Andrea, two Thai girls, and myself did the backup dancing. All and all it was a very excellent time. We're planning on going back in a few weeks so Aon and Pong can take us to the cave near their house.
The two Thai girls who danced with us. They also taught us Thai paddy cake. ( There's an instructional video on the blog if you want to learn it as well)
Here are a few more pictures from the day and from Jim's (a coworker's) wedding that we went to yesterday.
In other news around the office it's been pretty unhappy. Everyone has been irritable for a variety of reasons and not getting along. The other day I refused to let a coworker borrow a pen- yikes Aleza!
Andrea's been upset because she got mugged last weekend. We were all biking to a bar and she had her purse in her basket. Two guys on a motorbike came up close and snatched it. She's been feeling down on Thailand after that incident. I've also been much more warry of Thai people and less apt to go out on the weekends.
Justin's shoulder's been worse and we were both sick with some kind of flu/cold thingy this week.
Overall I feel like we've just gotten a bit tired of one another from a year of working and living and playing with the same 5 people.
I think it'll be tense in the office till Claire comes and then everyone should lighten up. She gets here on the 8th of September. Pretty soon!!! Andrea's friend from Spain also comes in September so hopefully everyone will be happier.
Happy early 35th anniversary mom and dad!! Missing everyone!!!
Hugs to all!
Aleza
