One city: one week: NO water!

Oh Thailand,

Sigh.

We found out today that the whole city of Surat (about 150,000) is without running water for this whole week!

I'm pretty excited because I was starting to feel like our year in Thailand was a bit too cushy. I'm curious to see how people handle this. So far most of the restaurants we typically go to are shut down. Our house has a back up water supply underground so we'll be ok for a bit, but definitely not a week. We're also lucky because we did our laundry yesterday right when the water shut off. So we should be ok for clothes.

The weather forecast is supposed to be hot all week with no rain- that should help.

I'm expecting a price surge for baby powder and deodorant.

I wonder if Mathus will stay open. The place smells pretty bad already just from having so many kids using the toilet, but without flushing- I don't know.

We'll keep you posted.

In other news . . .

The high school is finished!! Hooray!! Justin burned all his high school clothes at Khanom this weekend. It was a pretty good fire. I teach my last Mathus classes today because Claire will be taking over starting tomorrow. I feel pretty sad about it, but I'm glad it's Claire taking over and not someone else. My Mathus classes have both been really sweet and I'll definitely miss them.

We have a high school camp this weekend and then a farewell party in Khanom. Oh and we decided to fly to Bangkok instead of train, so that Monday will be less stressful.

13 days left!! Yikes!

Love to all!

Hi Kids!
No water (!) Yikes. Hope you two can stay cool and clean for the next week or so! What happened to the water? That's pretty amazing for a city of 100,000 to be out of water for a week. We just talked to Larry Leening and he said Brian told him that Nashville TN was out of gas. No gas stations had any at all and people were parked at gas stations hoping for a gas truck to show up. Very crazy. you should probably get some food to have in case all the restaurants stay closed.
We have some more plans made for the biking trip. It's gonna be really fun! Can't wait.
