Day 21:Villar de Mazarife - Astorga 31 km

3 week anniversary!! 2 weeks to go!!

What a day today, phew. The wind and rain and long distance kicked our behinds. We nearly toppled over several times from the wind. The freezing rain was also fun, although quickly blown off by the 90 mile winds.

No, no we´re doing alright. Today I wore two shirts, three pants, two pairs of socks, and three coats. I felt pretty alright. Justin of course didn´t dress as sensibly, but I sneakily got him to wear my scarf by asking him to hold it, but not asking him if he wanted to wear it. Worked like a charm.

The first half of the day was our last bit of flat, straight road and then into the woods. The trail was quite lovely the second half of the day with lots of forests and much more greens.

We both still have a bit of shin trouble, but not too bad considering the distance. I think tomorrow I might try to get a hot water bottle guy to fill with either cold or hot water in the evenings for our shins.

Our alburgue in Astorga is lovely with lots of warmth and more free internet! We haven´t met back up with any former friends though which is sad. We´ll have to try harder to make friends with the French folks here.

Today to fill the time we had an animal impersonation contests. I won for elephants and monkeys and Justin got horses and pigeons. Ahh what a day.

Justin´s cooking dinner and I think it´s ready. Pasta with veggies, salad, and this yummy sparkling wine we got in Leon.

I think tomorrow I´ll try to post a packing list (exciting!!) for anyone planning a camino trip and just for the general enjoyment of our faithful readers.

Missing America and turkeys a bit!! Love and warmth to all!!

hola! i just caught up on the last few days (and pictures!) it looks beautiful!! i can't wait to see more pics when you're home. i can't believe it's been three weeks! it doesn't seem like that long, although i'm sure it does for you guys ;) t-giving is coming up soon, and as mom said, we're going to schmidt's. should be great because i didn't go last year, as i was in chicago. but, i'm trying to figure out what i'm going to eat...i guess just some yummy veggies and maybe vegan mashed potatoes. tofurkey, maybe? although i haven't ever heard any reviews. it seems a little too weird to be good. anyway, i hope you can get your hands on something good to eat on thursday :) happy thanksgiving and safe travels!! love, jess!

Hi
Hope you two are warm and dry. The weather looks a little cold and windy and maybe wet. Aleza--we have kind of moved the boat trip to spring break which is March 7 to 15th in 2009. It looks like you two will be in the mountains for the next couple of days and then the weather on the coast should be a bit warmer and sunnier. We saw Michelle Schmidt last night and she's doing great. Working at Starbucks :.( and part-time at a boarding school :') and she has a new boyfriend, Eric, who sounds very nice. She'll be in town for a few days so we'll see her at Schmidt's also for Thanksgiving. Hope that you both have a great Thanksgiving! Turkey Tapas!!
Love Dan
