Our Weekend Away

We're back from our first weekend away. We put a few more photos up on Picasa which you can link to here. We left after school on Saturday. The bus and ferry over to the island took about 3 hrs and cost about 5 dollars each. When we got there we rented motorcycles (one each) and drove to a town called Maenam that was supposed to be a little more quiet than some other areas on the island. We stopped at the first bungalow sign and found a cute place for 500 baht (~18 dollars) a night. Here's a picture of it.

On Sunday we drove around the whole circumference of the island on our bikes(~ 40 miles). It's a very beautiful island. We had trouble finding the big beach, but we found one little swimming hole. We tried to see a waterfall, but the one we found seemed more like run off from some water pipes. We'll have to find a better one next time. We also went and saw the giant gold Buddha statue which was interesting. We still have to "feed the monks" as one teacher put it. You go down to the market and bring them these gold tupperware things full of food that you buy from the Thai walmart.

Here's a picture of Big Buddha.

We ate some European bar food Sunday night. Ko Samui is where you go if your craving food from back home. The burgers we ate though made us feel a little sick.

Monday we didn't do much before heading back. Mostly hanging out by the beach playing cards.

When we got on the ferry to go home I realized that I'd left my purse in the "trunk" of my motorcycle. Luckily I had my wallet in my backpack and my glasses with me. I had the motorcycle ladies card and called her. She's going to hold it for me till we come back.

This is the view from the back of a tuk tuk.

We're back in the swing of things here. Last night we worked on our lesson plans for this week. I'm teaching two classes on Thursday and one on Saturday. Justin's teaching two on Friday. I'm taking over all my Mathus classes next week, I'm not entirely sure about Justin.

Still don't have internet at our place. Hopefully this week so that we can write more. Hope everyone is happy and well!!

Hi Kids:
Ko Samui sounds like a great place. Do you have any more pictures? We sent you a package today from Jill & Paul and us. Should be there in a week or so (that's what they say). Hope the week at school goes good. Nova's new computers are almost up and running. Still looking at flights for the holidays. Talk to you soon.

Hi cuties - sorry not to have written in a while - very busy, as usual. Really liked your last email, Leza, and the postings on your blog. Made me feel like I was there with you. And it does sound like you're settling in well. Still feeling my way with this blog stuff.
Ko Sumai does look beautiful! And the stuff about the monks was interesting. I'm also really looking forward to visiting.
Denise and her family said they are enjoying the blog. Miss you lots! Love, Mom & Dad.
