Last week or so we visited the food fair. About a mile of food stalls, beer stalls, clothing stalls, and everything else. It was very reminescent of a good-old-fashioned midwestern state fair, and very comforting in that way. Lots of fried food. This is the norm in Thailand, but everything was excessively fried here. It was delicious. Seafood everywhere: Shrimp, big ol' prawns, grilled fish. Anyway, it was really good.
What else...we went to the Andaman Coast, Railay Beach, and that wasn't so good. Expensive, smelly, crummy hotels, and the beach wasn't great. The cliffs were wild though, big limestone stacks, maybe some of 'em were 2000ft. We also saw a giant swimming lizard while out on a kayak ride. Big ol' monitor lizard about 4ft. long, swimming along the side of an island.
After that, nothing happened
We ran out of money, again, and had to stay in Surat. It's been getting hot here, near 100 some days. Not great. I'm writing some music lately, which has been a pretty good time.
This past weekend we visited Sichon, a little fishing village about an hour from Surat. It was a great time. We pretty much hung out with High School kids that were working summer jobs at this little restaurant on the beach. These two boys beat us all at ping-pong for about two hours straight. I drank too much and cut my foot, then (while chasing an errant ping-pong ball) proceeded to knock over a plant pot. Anyway, the staff didn't seem to mind much, and it was great to practice our Thai.
Looks kinda dry here, huh?
I also got sunburned, and Aleza got sunburned on one half of her body.
We have a new teacher, Shaun (Shawn? Sean?). He looks precisely like a hairier, Australian Ben Bradshaw. Also, more muscular and attractive. You know what, scratch that, he looks nothing like Ben. He was a coal miner (!) for the 9 months before moving to Thailand. Anyway, swell guy, good to have some fresh meat here.
Also, I have fallen in love (!) with putting exclamation marks in parentheses in the middle (!) of sentences.

Hi Justin and Aleza:
Did you write the "Anonymous Said..." post? "Singularly Brilliant Voice" Very nice(!) Great to hear what you guys are up to and it was wonderful to talk with you last night. Sounds like you have really gotten excellent at Thai and are really getting around to see alot of the region around you. Jill is on her way to see you two and I know what a great time she and you two will have. I'm going to try and find some good maps for SE Asia for your trip in the fall. (Yes, I know you said you could find some, but I like maps and so it'll give me something to do.) Ben is still working on some web stuff for us -- he's setting up a Nova Legal Forms site for us. Well, have a great two weeks with Jill. Love, Dad and (!) Mom
