One week on the trail!! Day 7: Santo Domingo - Belorado (23 km)

Now for today! Another shorter day in the rolling hills of empty crops. It was not the most beautiful day because we were by the new highway for a way, but still great to be out walking.

Justin got his first injury (a very typically Justin one). He was walking and feeling energized so he started throwing and twirling his walking stick (he tried to get me to join in, but I refrained for fear of injury). Pretty quickly he tossed the stick high and it landed on the top of his foot! He got a bruise on his foot and is limping a bit. So I guess boots are good for something. He thinks he´ll be better tomorrow, but if not we´ll take a shorter day tomorrow.

We had a nice picnic today with chorizo sandwiches on some of the first green grass we´ve found now that we´re out of vineyard country.

We got into town around 4:30 after a beer stop in the previous town. Our hostel is a really cozy private one with lots of HEAT. Hooray! It´s always warm in the day (so far), but at night it gets very chilly.

We are cooking a communal dinner tonight of chicken and dumplings (and by we, I mean Justin) for whoever wants to eat. I think we´ll have maybe 10 people join us. We picked chicken and dumplings as we are the American ambassadors for Spain currently.

That´s all for now, as I should pull my weight and help cook. Buen camino para todo!!

Hi Kids:
It was great to talk to you this morning. You both sound great. I just did some math on the map of the trail and you have gone 167 km in 7 days (about a 24 km average). You have completed about 1/4 of the trail and have only about 22 days of hiking at the same speed in order to finish. So, you have a good amount of leeway to slow down for a few days. Justin, hope you foot is OK! The chicken and dumplings sounds great. Melanie says that she has used Justin's dumpling idea (flour tortillas) and it has been great. Well hope that you two have a great night and day tomorrow. The latest weather in Leon looks like continued 60s or so, but with lots of clouds and some rain. We'll keep tracking your progress on our atlas. Keep up the good work!! Keep those flip-flops flapping!!
